Colin Dawson has been in the marine insurance industry since 1990, starting his career at Lloyd’s. Moving to Hong Kong in 1994 he started to specialise with yacht insurance in 1997 when he built specialist divisions at two of Hong Kong’s major insurance brokers before setting up his own business, The George Group, in 2009. Soon after that he partnered with Expat Marine and since 2021 has partnered with the Howden Group after they purchased the business of Expat. Retaining his independence yet working alongside one of the world’s foremost insurance brokers allows Colin a large organisation working with the mindset of a bespoke broking house. He has had extensive experience in the Asia Pacific region and has arranged covers for every size and type of yacht in most geographic locations around the world. Outside of insurance Colin takes a keen interest in the yacht industry itself, being the Founder and Chairman of the Asia Pacific Superyacht Association. Stepping down in 2016 he remains an Honorary Life Member. He is now a member of Global Marine Business Advisors, a group of 21 seasoned marine industry specialists spanning more than 20 countries, with over 500 years of experience between them, assisting a younger yacht industry in its journey. Colin’s extensive contacts within the yacht industry brings distinct advantages to clients when discussing their insurance and risk management requirements.
