It is increasingly difficult to find insurers willing to provide this cover. This said, there are fairly standard clauses that go with this and any provider can therefore tack these onto a cruising cover if an insurer is willing to accept the risk. However, especially in Asia, there are very few insurance brokers who are also sailors and even fewer who have raced offshore. Being able to explain and discuss the actual risks to an insurer is a crucial aspect of that insurer providing the right cover and sometimes cover at all. With many years cruising and racing throughout the region Colin Dawson is well placed to discuss these risks and therefore help an owner make sure he is properly covered, closing the ever important grey area where an insurer may claim that the right information had not been given when they accepted a risk, thus jeopardising what could otherwise be a totally legitimate claim.
